Saturday Live Coverage of Mike Gould Classic

If everything is working correctly, we should be able to watch live coverage of the Mike Gould Classic on Saturday, right here on Maine-Armwrestling.com! This tournament is set to be one of the greatest tournaments we’ve seen in years, with reportedly a heavyweight class including Devon Larrett, Travis Bagent, the return of Gary Goodridge, and Massachusetts’ Jerry Cadorette. Go Jerry! The amateur classes are scheduled to start at 1pm. The pro classes will follow. I think they’ll likely start around 4pm, but it would probably be best to check in periodically. Results & Video Vermont Mid-Winter Warm-Up

Three Maine pullers made the trip to Vermont yesterday for the IAF Mid-Winter Warm-Up. Congrats to Mark Vieira for winning the Right 154-lb class, defeating long-time rivals Tim Sears and Kris Mikels. Maine’s John Cervantes didn’t make weight therefore had to pull the Right 220-lb class, but still made a good showing with a 3rd-place finish. I managed 2nd-place in the Left Supers class, finishing behind legendary Jerry Cadorette. Although Jerry beat me in the prelims, I did manage to pin Jerry in the finals, forcing a decisive 3rd pull to determine 1st place (in which Jerry won). The tournament was a great one, with a heavy pro turnout, and great team representation from MA, NY, NH, RI, VT, and of course ME. I will post the full results when they get released….for now enjoy the video I took. Sorry, we are not able to tape everyone’s matches at this time…..we are too busy competing! ….Kurt Howgate

John Cervantes, Mark Vieira, Kurt Howgate, and Eric Guevin all made the trek Sunday to North Providence, RI for the RI State Championships. What was expected to be a ‘small’ tourney ended up being well attended with lots of great matches. Mark Vieira finished undefeated in the Right Open 0-176 class, Eric Guevin finished in 2nd both arms in the Unlimited Class behind Jerry Cadorette, and Kurt Howgate finished in 3rd place in the left open unlimited class. John Cervantes pulled well but finished out of the top three. Results below the video clip…

Quote from tourney director Rick North: “Some great matches, Rich Durant and Ron had a few great battles leading Stilkey to comment ” Leave his thumb there Rich they will give you a trophy!!” Match of the day was a battle between Max and Frank Hirst in the straps. Frank usually a strapmaster fell to a very strong Max after a hard fought battle in the middle of the table!! Jerry C. looked unstoppable against all comers, including the much anticipated match against Eric Guevin. Jerry looked very serious when he faced Eric giving him no quarter!!

Back on Oct 2, 2004, Team Maine was visited by a 190lb newbie for some training… by the end of the practice, there was no doubt in our minds that this kid was going to quickly become one of the top names in the sport. Rob Vigeant Jr. got my attention immediately upon shaking his hand… and after pulling on the table with him, it was clear he had all the tools to be one of the best. We weren’t wrong. Check out some lo-res pics below from that day about five years ago…
