Maine Pullers – Send in your training pics!

Wednesday, 5 October, 2011

I know there are a bunch of training groups throughout Maine besides our group in the southern part of the state. Next time you train, take a few photos and email them to me (Kurt Howgate) at mainearmwrestler@yahoo.com. I’ll do my best and put them up on this site. If you have a commentary about your group, send that along, too. I’m not looking for hundreds of photos at once…be selective and it will be easier for me. Also, it will be easier if you send your group of photos in a zip folder instead of attaching them individually.

Ultimately, I’d like to get familiar enough with Maine’s best pullers to start ranking it’s Top Ten best pullers in each class. The likely scenario is that we won’t even have enough pullers to fill ten spots in each class, but we have to start somewhere, right? I’d like to eventually start individual profile pages, etc.

With a stronger commitment from me to keep this site updated regularly, and with cooperation from our mid and northern pullers, we can truly keep Maine Pullers in the loop!

Pics! Ronnie Bean Memorial Tourney 10/1/11 – NH

Sunday, 2 October, 2011

To my knowledge, I was the only Mainer to attend the Ronnie Bean Memorial Championships in Weirs Beach, NH.  Overall turnout was light but as Badger said, the tourney featured some the best matches I’ve ever seen.  One match in particular that was unbelievable was a long left-hand battle between Jeramie Towle (pictured above) and Harry Bean IV.   Harry ended up with the win.  Easily one the best pulls I’ve seen in a long time!  Full results aren’t yet released but I can give you a few results off the top of my head.  In the 198s, I’m pretty sure Richard Durant won both arms and Darren Courtemarche taking 2nd both arms.  Due to a light turnout, the right unlimited class ended up being 199-up after the 220s, 242s, and supers were combined.  Left arm stayed at 220-up.  I won both right & left supers with Harry Bean IV and Jeramie Towle taking 2nd and 3rd.   Check out the flash pic gallery below.  — Kurt Howgate

Portland Tourney Pics & Partial Results

Monday, 26 September, 2011

Hi, folks!  I’ve been waiting for the full results from Troy on the Portland tourney, but figured I’d better post at least some partial results.  The tourney had a light turnout with no entries in the 243+ classes but surprisingly had 2-3 ladies entries so that was a positive note.  I don’t remember all the results off the top of my head, but Mark Vieira won both the 154s and 176s right-hand classes.  Congrats to veteran puller Ben Frenette for his 2nd place in the 176 right class and for taking 1st place in the 176 left class.  The guy is in great shape and basically looks the same as he did five years ago.  John Cervantes jumped a class and pulled in the 199-242 class, where he took 1st place right-hand and 2nd place left-hand.  I took 2nd behind John right-hand but I took 1st place left-hand in front of John.  John ended the day with the right-arm overall.  I will update the site with the full results when I get them.  Troy Ladd has noted that he does plan on holding the 2012 Maine State Championships in early April.
